Known as the 'seed of blessing', Kalonji is a preferable spice ingredient in traditional regional dishes. Imbibed with medicinal properties, Kalonji has an undisputed reputation in that arena, too! They are an original and non-challenging spice with which to experiment, nevertheless, an interesting one.
With a slightly bitter taste, Nigella seeds are able to intensify the whole experience of enjoying a delicious meal. Nigella seeds are slightly pungent in flavor too but not overpowering.
Kalonji is commonly used in India, as a decorative spice on Indian breads like Naan. They are also used in tempering curries and is an essential ingredient in the Bengali five-spice mix known as panch phora.
